About The Company
The Designer, Elise Truong
Growing up in my mothers custom dress shop in Edmonton Alberta, my entire childhood life was surrounded by pattern making and sewing. As soon as I could speak, I would sit beside my mother daily and watch her sew. Later on I fell in love with alternative fashions, mainly surrounding corsetry. The first corset I purchased was made by a professional corset maker. The workmanship was very inspiring and the fit was gorgeous and unmatched compared to off-the-rack corsets. The obsession of true corsetry grew. It was only a matter of time I started collecting books and started researching about corset making. In 2006, I graduated from the Fashion Design and Apparel Production program in M.C College and taught myself how to properly fit and sew corsets. Other things that take up my spare time is travel, live burlesque and alt events, movie nights in, website making and costume making.
The Company
After endless hours going through countless patterns and working closely with models on the fit, I launched Sweet Carousel Corsetry and moved into the studio in 2007. All the hard work has turned into what you see today. I was mostly a one-woman production creating all the samples, patterning, sewing orders, coding the website, event co-ordinating and customer service. Now Sweet Carousel has grown to add a couple sewing assistants. We look forward to more growth and continue to satisfy our clientele through our honest service and passion for quality work.
The Studio
The Sweet Carousel studio is located along the easy-accessible Edmonton downtown 4th street Promenade. This historical area is filled with gorgeous residences, shopping, dining, and is home to the downtown city farmers market that runs Spring to Fall (we can't get enough of the kettle corn!). Our modest private studio is located in the historical old West Saddlery building where other artists and designers co-exist. The studio is in a private setting open to clients through appointments only and our shop front is our website. We are working to expand our workforce and an ultimate goal is to open a larger studio and have some of our line readily available for purchase in a shop front.
